PCA K5 Students perform Annual Christmas Play

By: Brayden Gravley, PCA junior

Every year at Pinewood, the K5 classes come together to produce a play about the first Christmas, the day Christ was born. It is always a fun way for children to not only hear the story of Jesus’ birth but participate in it as well.

The story begins with Gabriel (Kase Almond) telling Mary (Zoey Carter) the good news. Mary is in shock, but places her trust in the Lord and goes to tell her husband, Joseph (Jackson Giardina). The couple begins their journey to Bethlehem and, when they get there, Joseph tries to check them into an inn. The innkeeper (Burke Kennedy) turns them away, explaining that there is no room for them. The inn was filled with people who were being counted by the soldiers (Wade Patrick, Taos Rogers, and Thomas Fincher). Joseph insists that he give them a place to stay so that Mary can rest and have her child. The innkeeper comes up with a solution and allows them to stay in his stable. The stable is filled with cows (Kensleigh Bragg, Finley Wallace, and Kinsey Whittaker), sheep (Sawyer Kate Brannen, Zara Patrick, and Esley Ammermon), and donkeys (Emma Hinson, Evan Kate Bass, Avery Taylor Cleary, and Kendall McDaniel). The animals are noisy and the conditions of the stable are far from perfect.

Though the stable didn’t seem like a place where the Son of God would be born, it ended up being just that. The angels (Annie Rogers, Anistyn Griffin, Braylee Kennedy, Vivian Green, Clara Hodges, Kaylee Arnold, Katherine Leiter, and Ellie Tippins) rejoice when baby Jesus is born, clothed, and gently placed in the manger. The shepherds (Bryce Brown, Aiden Croft, and Wilkes Thomas) and wisemen (Payne Sommers, Easton Hart, and Will Tucker) follow the star (Harper Randall) to the place where Jesus was born. They all came together to worship him, celebrating Christmas for the first time.

This annual play is enjoyed by families and patrons as well as the students on stage. It’s a great way to bring people together for the holidays and remind them of the true meaning of Christmas.
