On the week of September 18th-22nd, Pinewood Christian Academy hosted their annual wee cheer event. There were eighty-one girls varying from kindergarteners to 4th graders in attendance.  Wee cheer is an opportunity for young aspiring cheerleaders to spend a week learning skills to prepare them for middle school and varsity cheer. “I like wee cheer because we get to play games and because it is so much fun!” exclaimed Zamora Durrence.

The theme for the week was “Patriots Glow for Christ.” The scripture that was used for the week was 2 Corinthians 4:6,”For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shone in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” The varsity cheer team taught the wee cheerleaders a cheer, chant, and dance and prepared them for their big half-time performance at the game.

“Wee cheer is important because it shows the little girls what they have to look forward to,” stated Harleigh Driggers, the varsity cheer captain, “My favorite part is getting to know the girls.” At Friday night’s game, the young girls dressed up in their Pinewood uniforms with pigtails, ribbons, and glitter. During halftime of the Pinewood versus Mount de Sales football game, Patriot fans loaded the stands to watch the wee cheerleaders perform and cheer on their beloved Patriots.
