Third Grade Builds Indian Houses

By: Britton Waters, PCA Junior

The third grade students at Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) have recently been learning about Native American tribes.  Mrs. Pam Daniel and Mrs. Crystal DeLoach assigned their students a written report on an Indian tribe which included information such as their type of housing, tribal customs, settlement, and other interesting facts.  Students built houses that modelled what their tribe’s homes would have looked like.  They decorated their displays with animals, rivers, trees, dirt, rocks, and Indian symbols.

Presentations were accompanied by props such as costumes, figurines, and books.  All of the students enjoyed researching the tribes and building model houses.  Emmett Burke, 3rd grade student, said that his favorite part of the project was plastering the sides of his house.  This opportunity to dress up and build houses gave students a valuable learning experience about our country’s heritage.
