Pinewood Introduces Beta Club

Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) held their first Beta Club meeting on Wednesday, September 16. A total of 54 students participated in the meeting. The Beta Club officers are as follows: President, Allyse Kumpula; Vice President, Tarah Thompson; Secretary, Delaney Pirkle; Treasurer, Sam Hobbs; Chaplain, Emily Shiver. Mrs. Susan Nobles and Mrs. Angie Whiten are the sponsors for PCA’s first Beta Club. Each Semester, students will participate in various events. During the first event, held October 28, 2015, members put on a Halloween bash for the associates of the Griffin House in Claxton, GA. Beta Club members played games, served snacks, and dressed up in Halloween costumes.

On October 2, the Beta Club held their second meeting at Pinewood. The members talked about their upcoming events including the convention held in March in Atlanta. The Beta Club officers are planning to host talent auditions for the convention, and the members will start working on questions for the quiz bowl. A few activities for the convention are the talent show, various subject tests, the quiz bowl, and many more. Connor O’ Sullivan, a member of PCA’s Beta Club, will run for president at the State Beta Club convention in Atlanta. He will have to give a two minute speech in addition to participating in an interview. The other Beta Club members plan to perform a skit in support of Connor O’ Sullivan.

On October 8, Pinewood held their first Beta Club Induction during which the members were given a certificate and a pin. Also at the Induction, a candle ceremony was performed followed by the PCA Beta Club members’ recitation of the National Beta Club Pledge. There was a total of 54 members inducted into Pinewood’s first Beta Club.
