Pinewood Interact Prepares Thanksgiving Meal for the Savannah City Mission

By: Anna Scott, PCA junior

For the past 20 years, the Old Savannah City Mission has been serving Thanksgiving dinner to those in need in the community, and on November 17, Pinewood’s Interact Club took their fifth trip to the mission to help prepare food for the dinner. The students cooked green beans, yams, dressing and cranberry sauce and put together packets of silverware for the tables. After preparing the food, the club prayed over those to whom the food would be served the following Saturday.  They were also given a tour of the mission’s facilities and given the chance to see what goes into running the mission. The WSAV news program came to the mission to cover the event. Funded by a several generous benefactors, the mission consists of a staff of only seven employees. However, each year hundreds of volunteers join with these employees to provide food, shelter, rehabilitation, and job training to the homeless and struggling members of the community. The mission is committed to bringing hope to the utterly hopeless. Employees and volunteers faithfully spread the Gospel of Christ to those to whom they provided services. Pinewood’s Interact was grateful to have had the opportunity to serve alongside an organization that has such a positive impact on the community.
