Pinewood host’s first UCA Cheer Camp

By:  Mallory Sessions, PCA junior

This summer, the Pinewood varsity and JV cheerleading squads attended UCA cheer camp on PCA’s campus. The camp’s theme for this year was the Greatest Show. While at camp, the girls learned new stunts, cheers, and 2 dance routines. Camp concluded with the cheerleaders performing for family and friends and a small ceremony that recognized the cheerleaders for skills demonstrated throughout camp.

Six of the varsity girls received the All-American award and seven of the JV girls also met the requirements needed to receive the All-American Cheerleader title. The varsity girls who were awarded with All-American were Madeline Deal, Malaree Dasher, Carson Rountree, Taylor Langford, MiKaley Durrence, and Sarah Jane Collins.

The JV girls who received All-American were Jaeley MacGregor, Becky Edwards, Ava Woolard, Genevieve Bradley, Mimi Parker, Milli Anderson, and Gracie Daniels.

A select few athletes were awarded individual awards for their jumping ability.  Sarah Jane Collins was selected from the Varsity squad and Ava Woolard was selected from the JV squad for the “Best Jumps” Award. Awards for leadership, attitude, spirit, and skill technique were also given to both teams.

Each team also received the Superior Team Trophy for their performances throughout the week.  During their experience at UCA camp, the cheerleaders became closer as a squad and improved in their cheerleading skills.
