Pinewood gathers for “See You at the Pole”

By: Elizabeth O’Brien, PCA Junior

This past Wednesday, September 22, Pinewood held its annual See You at the Pole. This is the 30th year for See You at the Pole, a student-initiated and student-led event that started in Burleson, Texas in 1990. It brings students together to intercede for their leaders, schools, and families asking God to bring moral and spiritual awakening to their campuses and countries. To lead SYATP, there were three brave souls who stepped up and volunteered to be a prayer leader. These were 8th grader, Nicolas Nobles, sophomore, Brinson White, and senior, Rebekah Whiten.

Lower school chapel was led by junior Audrey-Kate Smith.  During her devotion, she spoke to the students about how we are spiritually connected to the beings of plankton. She explained that like plankton go to the light to get what the nourishment they need, Christians similarly go spiritually towards the light, being Jesus, for our own purpose to be filled. Smith shared, “As plankton go towards the light, they have to face a lot of struggles such as natural disasters and animal predators, kind of like how we go through struggles when we search to find Jesus.  Once we find Him, we then share the light similar to how plankton share the light amongst themselves rather than staying at the surface to keep it all for themselves.”

Upper school chapel was led by senior Peighton White. The devotion she shared was focused on being a friend and not a felon. She referred to the story of the good Samaritan found in Luke 10. As she reflected on how high school can be hard, she spoke of the importance of giving grace to others because that’s what Jesus would do. Much like the Samaritan showed kindness to the injured man on the road, White challenged her fellow classmates to be willing to also show kindness to others. She left the students with the truth that we can either make or break a person’s day, so we needed to strive to be the one to make a positive difference in the lives of others as a reflection of Jesus Christ.

Pinewood Christian Academy is very proud of the students that took on leadership roles for yet another great year of See You at the Pole and appreciates everyone who came out to pray together.
