PCA takes 2nd in GISA Region Literary

GISA Region Literary Competition was hosted virtually for the first time ever. Literary is a competition is an opportunity to recognize creative excellence of students in areas such as:  singing, essay writing, spelling, speech delivery, and dramatic interpretation. It was required that submissions be livestreamed on Zoom during specific timeframes. Students had their pieces recorded and sent in via computer. To aid with the effort, Darby Hodges brought in special recording equipment to ensure each video would clearly showcase each participant’s talent. “It is truly an honor to be a part of such a talented group of people,” said Gracie Hodges, PCA senior. “I am so proud of all of the participants and the goals that they achieved.”

School sponsor Mrs. Miriam Porter worked with ten high school students as they prepared for competitions. Pinewood placed second overall with several students winning the following awards:

• Cade Beecher placed 1^st in Male Vocal Solo
• Gracie Hodges placed 1^st in Female Vocal Solo
• Claire Mullis placed 1^st in Dramatic Oral Interpretation
• Smith Dekle and Kennon Bell placed 1^st in Duo Oral Interpretation
• Ally McCall placed 2^nd place in Personal Essay
• Lindsey McLeod placed 2^nd in Rhetorical Analysis Essay
• Jack Ryan Peterson placed 2^nd in Spelling
• Kennon Bell placed 2^nd in Humorous Oral Interpretation and 2^nd place in Impromptu Speaking
• Riya Patel placed 2^nd place in International Extemporaneous Speaking and 3^rd in Argumentative Essay.
