Laine Bradley and Ashton Shuman Attend RYLA

By Sydney Strickland, PCA junior

Pinewood Christian Academy juniors Laine Bradley and Ashton Shuman attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) at South Georgia State College in Douglas on June 21-24. At this conference, the girls learned foundational leadership skills through experiential activities, incredible speakers, small group discussions, large group presentations, and in building life-long friendships.

Laine Bradley, the 16-year-old daughter of Ricky and Jennifer Bradley of Glennville, represented the Glennville Rotary Club at RYLA. When asked how RYLA impacted her, she replied, “RYLA pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me interact better with others.” Her favorite part of RYLA was listening to the speakers, especially during customer services class.

Ashton Shuman, the 17-year-old daughter of Steven and Lacy Shuman of Claxton, represented the Evans Rotary Club. When asked about her experience at RYLA, she stated,” RYLA helped me focus on how important it is to be a leader.” Her favorite part of the conference was going to all the classes and making new friends.

Overall, RYLA taught these students about the importance of leadership and pushed them to their limits to discover new things that they hadn’t already known about themselves. We look forward to seeing Laine and Ashton as they lead others and grow in their love for their communities.
