Lady Patriots 2015 GISA AAA State Champs

The softball team at Pinewood Christian Academy are state champs for the second time. The Lady Patriots had one goal this year to defend their championship title, and that is exactly what took place. After moving into the final four with a two game sweep over Tift Area, they faced John Milledge in Milledgeville on Oct 14. A best two of three games was the format for this year’s playoffs. All three games would be needed for this contest. John Milledge was not going out without a fight. The first of the three games seem to be business as usual for the LadyPatriots as they put 2 on the board in the first inning and picking up another run to make the score 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. It only takes one good inning to create an upset and the Lady Trojans found away to make that happen in the fifth inning as John Milledge takes game one 7-3. The second game would prove to be a battle of the defenses. PCA struck again early with 1 run on the board in the first inning. JM comes back strong with 2 runs in the third inning. Then in the bottom of the sixth inning Raegan Waters gets on with a hit to right field for the Lady Patriots followed by a huge triple from Hanna Anderson to put PCA back on top. The final score game two Pinewood wins 3-2. The game three showdown would become more of a showcase as the Lady Patriots put hit after hit on the scoreboard. Maggie Greer hit a record three out of the park home runs. Raegan Waters also hit an out of the park home run for a 13-2 victory putting PCA once again in the state championship game.
The GISA AAA State Championship game was held at Georgia College in Milledgeville
Oct 17 Pinewood Christian vs Trinity Christian for the title. The teams had faced off twice this season and had split each winning one in region 2 play. Carleigh Bell was on the mound for PCA in game one. A walk by Shelton Rogers and Emily Shiver set up the perfect opportunity for Maggie Greer to start the game off right with 3 run out of the park homer in the first inning of the game. Hanna Anderson kept it going with a shot to left field and was brought in by Delaney Pirkle. The Lady Patriots led 4-0. Defense would be the name of the game for the next few innings as the game remained scoreless. Until the bottom of the sixth, Hanna Anderson would start off a rally for PCA with a hit to left field. A bunt by Delaney Pirkle puts Hanna in scoring position. Macy Pirkle brings the run in and Jena Browns gets on with a hit down third baseline. Shelton Rogers bunts to load the bases. Emily Shiver hits to left field to bring in another run and a hit by Maggie Greer and Carleigh Bell puts the run rule in effect, and the Lady Patriots take game one with a 9-0 shut out.
Game 2 would bring Raegan Waters to the mound for PCA. The Lady Patriots would strike first again as a walk by Emily Shiver and a hit by Maggie Greer both brought in by a double to centerfield by Abigail Bland. Raegan Waters would double as well scoring Abigail, and Pinewood put 3 on the board in the first inning. Trinity was ready to throw in the towel. A rally in the bottom of the third inning put the Lady Crusaders in the driver seat with a 4-3 score. Delaney Pirkle got things back on track for PCA with a single to start the fifth inning. Macy Pirkle followed suit with another base hit and a bunt by Shelton Rogers would load the bases again for Pinewood. Emily Shiver comes through again scoring Delaney and Macy. Maggie Greer scored Shelton with a bomb to centerfield, and Raegan Waters second double of the game scored Maggie, and the score was 8-4 top of the fifth. However Trinity was not done as they scored 1 in the bottom of the fifth score 8-5. TCA would rally again for the last time in bottom of the sixth as they loaded the bases with one out. The Lady Patriots defense would strike back with an awesome double play as Carleigh Bell, third baseman, throws home for the out at the plate and Emily Shiver, catcher, throws the batter out at first. The Lady Patriot win their second championship title with a final score of 8-5. Congratulations PCA!
