Falling in Love with Jesus

Allen Smith and the Baptist College Ministries worship team came to speak to us for chapel on October 26th. Allen Smith serves at Passion City Church in Atlanta and works with college students at First Baptist Church of Barnesville, Georgia. He teaches AP English at Mount De Sales Academy in Macon, Georgia. Mr. Smith has a wife and two daughters. He brought the Baptist College Ministries worship team from Gordon State University in Barnesville, Georgia with him to lead the students in music. The BCM worship team consisted of two students, Cara and Grant. Cara is originally from South Africa, but she moved to the United States and now lives in Griffin, Georgia. She attends Gordon State University in Barnesville and also serves as the president of the BCM board there. Grant also attends Gordon State and is pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. He is from Barnesville and serves as a student or interim pastor at Antioch Baptist Church in Barnesville. Grant makes an annual mission trip to the Navajo reservation in Arizona. Both Grant and Cara participate in Mr. Smith’s study group at First Baptist Church of Barnesville.

Cara and Grant led the students in song before Mr. Smith shared his message. Mr. Smith’s message was about falling in love with Jesus. We all have different stories and are at different places in our lives. Hopefully, at some point in our lives, we will all realize the magnitude of what Jesus did for us, and when we come to that place, we will fall completely and totally in love with Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:13 says, “If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for ourselves.” When we really understand what Christ did for us, it is a complete game changer. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” We have all done things in our lives that we are ashamed of. We all mess up, but Romans 3:24 says, “and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” These two verses together are so reassuring. Even though we mess up and make mistakes, Christ died for us and justified all of our sins. He made them right for us. His own father even turned his back on him because he was so disgusted by our sins. That was a huge sacrifice that Christ made, so whatever you do, do it for the glory of God. We should live our lives to glorify God and bring praise to him that he so deserves.
