On March 8th, Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) competed for the GISA 2AAA region literary title at Brewton Parker College in Mt. Vernon. PCA took home the overall title once again and sent several of its competitors (those placing 1st and 2nd in their individual events) to state competition at Gordon State College in Barnesville on March 13th.

Pinewood’s literary team placed in several individual competitions besides the region championship. Senior Elizabeth McCooey took home a first place win in Girl’s Solo. McCooey also combined with junior Sydney Anne Strickland and sophomore Gracie Hodges in Girl’s Trio, advancing to state competition with a second place award. The Boy’s Quartet, seniors Joshua Murray and Timothy Stoner, junior Aaron Lyons, and sophomore Korbett MacGregor, placed first and became back-to-back region champions in the category. Murray became the back-to-back region champion in Boy’s Solo. Stoner and Lyons received individual competition awards as well; Stoner placed first in Dramatic Oral Interpretation, and Lyons paired with Elizabeth McCooey and took home a win in Duo Oral Interpretation.

Several students also advanced to state with second place honors. Senior Irene Lee received second place in both Piano and Rhetorical Essay. Senior Britton Waters placed second in Spelling. Aaron Lyons advanced with a second place in Humorous Oral Interpretation. Junior Logan Haddon placed third in Personal Essay, and junior Vivian McLendon received fourth in Argumentative Essay.
