Pinewood students present geometry Christmas projects

By: Haleigh McWilliams, PCA Freshman

Mrs. Barr’s math students have recently tackled the world of polygons and 3D shapes. To wrap up the unit, and celebrate the Christmas season, fifth and sixth grade made Christmas-inspired geometry projects. Fifth graders used two-dimensional shapes to create their own “Christmas Geome-trees.” They had to use at least eight two-dimensional shapes to make their tree. Sixth graders used two and three-dimensional shapes to create their own version of the iconic Nativity scene, “Math in a Manger,” complete with Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, and the Star in the east. Many students displayed their creativity through banners, posters, and dioramas. The culmination of the project was a presentation by each student, sharing how they constructed it and the shapes that were incorporated in the project. All of their projects are on display in the library to celebrate the Christmas season.
