Pinewood Senior Receives Good Citizen Award

Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) Senior, EmmaLeigh Skinner, recently received the Daughters of American Revolution Good Citizen Award. The DAR organization is a lineage-based membership for girls and women who are descendants of people involved in the Revolutionary War. Mr. Porter, AP Government teacher at PCA, nominated EmmaLeigh for this award. Every year he chooses a student that shows the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism; this year he chose EmmaLeigh Skinner. EmmaLeigh had to write an essay about a topic that the General Josiah Tattnall DAR chapter chose for her. The essay that she wrote was about the importance of freedom of speech and what freedom means to her. Her essay won region, so it was sent to district to be judged again. She was presented the region award on February 16th, 2016, at a reception that included the other nominees from the area as well. She was awarded a DAR Good Citizen certificate, a DAR Good Citizen Pin, and, if her essay wins district, she will receive an award of monetary value of a varied amount. EmmaLeigh is extremely honored to have received this award and is extremely grateful to Mr. Porter for nominating her. She is also thankful for the DAR ladies who warmly welcomed her and the other participants and guests.
