Overpowers Bulloch 46-14 By: Lilly Dasher, Junior Friday, October 21, 2016, Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) traveled to Statesboro to battle with the Bulloch Academy Gators.  Pinewood came out with the victory with a score of 46-14.

First Quarter

Pinewood’s Matthew Floyd was on fire. The game began as Floyd stripped the ball from BA, and the ball fell into the hands of Jake Woolard, who then ran for a Patriot touchdown (TD). The kick after by Caleb Conley was not good, and the score became 6-0.

On the next series, J. Woolard intercepted the ball from the Gators and gained some yards for PCA. Jeffrey Young ran the ball up the middle for a steady gain of yards.

It was first and third for Pinewood.  On the next play, Garlon Rogers scored the TD. The kick by Conley was good, and PCA had the lead score of 13-0.

Pinewood’s defensive line held their ground and stopped Bulloch from getting close to the end zone.

Second Quarter

 

PCA received the kick from the punt return. J. Woolard ran the ball for Pinewood until he was forced out of bounds.

The Patriots scored their third TD and lined up for a two-point conversion. The points after were not good, and the scoreboard read 20-0.

Bulloch intercepted the ball from the Patriots and ran for a first down on account of being tackled by J. Woolard. BA completed a pass but was tackled. Bulloch had a third down after being tackled by PCA after catching the pass.

During the fourth down, BA earned their first TD of the game before the Patriots could catch the runner. The kick was good, so the score became 20-7.

Shuman inched the ball closer to the end zone on the carry. On the next play, K. Shuman ran past the end zone mark for a Patriot TD. The kick by Conley was good, and the scoreboard read 27-7.

Bulloch ran the ball, but quickly turned over on downs.

Shuman ran the ball almost into the end zone putting PCA under the 10- yard line. On the next play, K. Shuman carried the ball into the Patriot end zone for a TD. The kick by Conley was good, and the score became 32-7.

Cameron Dutton tackled the BA runner on the next series.

Third Quarter

 

Collin Woolard received the kick return and ran hard for the Patriots gaining several yards for a first down.

Dutton earned another PCA TD on the carry followed by Conley kicking the ball through the uprights for a score of 39-7.

Bulloch gained a few yards, but did not make it to the end zone.  The Gators quickly turned over on downs.

Garlon Rogers ran the ball for PCA but was called back because of a flag. J. Woolard ran the ball for an increase in yards.

Shuman brought the ball across the goal line for a Patriot TD. The kick was incomplete, and the score was 46-7.

Bulloch fumbled the ball, and the Patriots recovered.

Lake Dasher on the carry for a two-yard gain.

Pinewood was called for a false start which backed them up five yards.

Dasher carried the ball for a steady gain of yards, but was brought down by a gang of Gators.

Dasher juked out the Gators with a spin move, then was tackled before crossing the goal line.

Fourth Quarter

Woolard ran the ball for Pinewood but was tackled causing a fourth down.

Dasher had a hard tackle against the Gators.

A complete pass was made to BA for a first down. The Gators scored what would be the last TD of the game making the score end at 46-13.

Dasher ran the last play of the game, and the time went out with PCA ahead of their rival by 53 points to seize the win and secure their home field advantage for the first round of state playoffs. On Friday, October 28, Pinewood will play Trinity Christian from Sharpsburg for the first round of state playoffs at Lowell Coley Field in Bellville.
