Pinewood 5th Graders Create Edible Cells

Abigail Tucker, PCA Senior

The Pinewood Christian Academy fifth grade classes created edible cells as part of their study on the different parts of a cell and its functions. For the past few weeks, students have learned about the nucleus, mitochondria, cytoplasm, cell wall, and ribosomes of the cell. To end this lesson, the fifth grade created a cell using some of their favorite snacks and candy including: Jello, gumballs, sprinkles, Hot Tamales, and Fruit Rollups. Each treat was placed inside the Jello and represented a different part of the cell. The class packed their cell full of its parts and tried not to break the cell wall. When their cell was complete, and every part was identified, the students enjoyed their tasty cell snack.
