7th Grade Dissection Lab

By Leah Deal, PCA Senior

September 21st, Mrs. April Barr’s 7th grade life science class began studying cell division and differentiation along with muscle structure. To further the study, the class dissected boiled eggs and chicken legs to view the process of cell division and muscle structure.

While dissecting the boiled eggs, the class observed the cell membrane and cell wall, also known as the yolk and the egg shell, and noted their location and purpose. The class studied the structure of the leg step by step. By dissecting the chicken legs, they observed muscle tissue, bones, and tendons along with other parts constructing the leg.

The students learned by the end of the lesson where and how cell division takes place, along with what makes up muscle structure. Once the lesson was finished, each student followed standard lab safety procedures and disposed of or washed any materials used. Students enjoyed this hands-on experience with the lab and look forward to further studying cell division and differentiation and muscle structure.

From left to right, students include: Cassidi Lynn, Kaedan Arnold, Morgan Blalock, Avery Beasley, Banks Durrence, Trent Jenkins, Riley Nevil, Harleigh Driggers, Mrs. April Barr, JT Cofield, Ben Swindell, Cade Sikes, Jamie Sapp, Sarah Jane Collins, Delaynie Jackson, Jake Rogers, and Sam Todd.
