PCA Varsity Cheerleaders Attend FCA Camp

On July 25-28, Pinewood Christian Academy’s (PCA) Varsity Cheerleading Squad attended FCA Camp at Georgia Southern University. Through this experience, the girls were given the opportunity to build their relationship with Christ, strengthen their friendships with each other, and use their spiritual experiences to better themselves as a team.

The squad also received many honors and awards while at Georgia Southern, including the overall Supreme Team Award as well as the Banana Award, an award given each day to the team that shows the most spirit. Seniors Tinsley McCall and Nola Rushing, junior Malaree Dasher, and sophomore Carson Rountree each earned the honor of being named as All-American cheerleaders; they are invited to cheer at the upcoming Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in January at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Eighth grader Madelyn Spacek received the Heart of an Athlete Award, given to cheerleaders who display certain characteristics like leadership, dedication, integrity, and sacrifice. Spacek also won the 5^th-8^th grade jump-off competition for the entire camp, while Rushing won the 9^th-12^th grade competition in the same category. McCall also received the opportunity to work at FCA camp next summer as a part of the FCA cheer ministry team. McCall reflects, “This past FCA camp was certainly an unforgettable experience. Being able to cheer and worship God from sunrise to sundown not only made me a better leader for my team, but enabled me also to connect with God and my teammates in a very intimate way. I am very blessed to have been chosen to join FCA’s ministry staff in 2019 so I can lead others to Christ.”

Head Coach Lindsey Blocker also states,” FCA Camp was such a blessing to me as a coach because I was able to bond with my squad both on a personal and spiritual level. I was so proud of my cheerleaders for being a “Mentor Squad” for some of the inexperienced squads at camp, for pushing themselves beyond their current capabilities during stunt class, and making a vow to hold each other accountable in their walks with Christ. Overall, FCA was a wonderful start to our 2018-19 season!”
