PCA Students Participate in Senior BETA Convention
By: Britton Waters
On January 24th through the 26th, Pinewood Christian Academy’s Senior BETA Club, sponsored by Susan Nobles, travelled to the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center for the Senior BETA Convention. This is an annual event that is held for students across the state to compete in a variety of academic and creative arts categories. Students also had the opportunity to run for the office of president, vice president, or secretary. Competitions took place on Wednesday and Thursday; and to wrap up the festivities on Thursday night, the students celebrated with decade themed dance party.
The winners of each category and the new officers were announced on Friday morning. PCA senior, Milligan Williams won 1st place in the area of Language Arts test. Elizabeth McCooey, PCA junior, received the “Premier Performing Award for Dance” which will allow her to advance to Nationals. There she and the other dancers that were awarded a ticket will work with a professional choreographer who will teach them the opening number for the event, and later they will get to join a flash mob in Downtown Savannah.
Students who placed in 1st through 3rd place will advance to Nationals in June held at the same location. Each of the students enjoyed this opportunity to meet new people and compete in a subject area that interests them.
