PCA Loses Tough Battle against Deerfield 7-28

On September 16, 2016, the Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) Patriots battled against Deerfield Academy in Albany; however, the Patriots did not come out with the victory having a score of 28-7.

First Quarter

First quarter had a slow start with a few fumbles from each team. Multiple Pinewood tackles were made by Collin Woolard, Grady Skeens, and Sky Rogers.

Garlon Rogers recovered a fumble for PCA. Jeffrey Young had several complete passes to Cameron Dutton gaining several yards, but not making it quite to the end zone.

Second Quarter

The Patriots gained yards on Young’s completions to Parks Hagan, however they were unsuccessful on the drive.

On Deerfield’s possession, Ford Thompson tackled the runner after an 18-yard gain. Deerfield scored a touchdown (TD) with a 60 yard pass on the next play. The kick was good, so the score became 0-7.

Kaleb Shuman ran the ball for PCA and was finally brought down by a host of Deerfield Knights. PCA gained a first down after being pushed out of bounds. K. Shuman was tackled losing 6 yards for Pinewood. Young threw a long pass to Thompson, but it was incomplete.

The ball was turned over to the Knights. Hagan stopped the runner from getting too close to the end zone. A pass was completed to Deerfield which put them on the 5 yard line. The Knights recovered a fumble and scored a TD. The point after was complete which made the score 0-14.

Young completed a pass to James Rogers earning a Patriot first down. Thompson gained another first down from a pass thrown by Young. Young ran the ball which gained PCA 6 yards.

Shuman made the first down for the Patriots. Young threw an incomplete pass to C. Woolard. On the next play, Jacob Hendrix completed the pass for a Patriot TD. Caleb Conley kicked the ball through the uprights, and the score became 7-14.

Dutton sacked Deerfield’s quarterback causing a loss of 10 yards for the Knights. Dutton intercepted the ball but quickly fumbled it. Deerfield recovered the ball. Hendrix had a great tackle against the Knights.

Third Quarter

 Shuman ran the ball for PCA and gained a few yards. G. Rogers carried the ball for a seven-yard gain and a first down.

A pass from Young was incomplete to Thompson; PCA had a 4th down with 5 to go.

Woolard kicked a 47 yard punt. On the second down, Wes Purcell made a powerful tackle putting the Knights at a 3rd down with 5 yards to go.

Matthew Floyd had several strong tackles back to back. Deerfield remained strong and ended up scoring their third TD. The score became 7-21.

The ball was kicked off to the Patriots. K. Shuman had great runs for PCA, yet they could not make it into the end zone.

 Fourth Quarter

Woolard had a spectacular sack against the Knights. S. Rogers followed his lead and had several tackles as well. Hendrix had some tackling-action also which forced Deerfield to punt.

On the Knights next possession, they scored a TD and kicked the extra point making the scoreboard read 7-28.

Dutton came close to scoring a Patriot first down but was tackled. Young ran the ball and gained the first down for the Patriots.

Dutton had a fierce run for PCA. Young completed a pass to Jake Woolard, and a complete pass was thrown to Dutton who gained the Patriot first down.

Lake Dasher caught the ball and put PCA at 2nd and 4.

Time ran out on the clock, and the Deerfield Knights were victorious with a final score of 7-28.
