PCA Literary Wins GISA AAA State Championship

On March 20th, Pinewood Christian Academy’s Literary team made history by winning their first GISA AAA State Championship. They competed at Gordon State College in Barnesville against many other schools from across the state. Categories in the GISA State Literary Competition include Boys Solo, Girls Solo, Boys Quartet, Girls Trio, Piano, Humorous Oral Interpretation, Dramatic Oral Interpretation, Duo Oral Interpretation, Spelling, Argumentative Essay, Personal Essay, Rhetorical Essay, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Impromptu Speaking.

PCA students won several individual state titles and awards including four first place, one second place, two third place, and one fourth place. Seniors Connor Kennedy and Nicholas Strickland, junior Joshua Murray, and sophomore Aaron Lyons, were named state champions in Boys Quartet. The Girls Trio, seniors Haley Thompson and Milligan Williams and junior Elizabeth McCooey, claimed a state title as well. Juniors Anna Scott (Impromptu Speaking) and Joshua Murray (Boys Solo) also won state champion recognition in their respective categories. Junior Irene Lee was state runner-up in Piano.  Aaron Lyons also brought home a third place award in Humorous Oral Interpretation. Sophomore Logan Haddon received fourth in Personal Essay.

Looking back on her trio win, senior Haley Thompson, states,” We worked long and hard for this, and it felt really good to see it all pay off in the end.” Sophomore Aaron Lyons, member of the Boys Quartet and Humorous Oral Interpretation contestant, also states,” It was a great experience to show our school’s talent, and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.” Literary Coordinator Miriam Porter shows her pride and offers congratulations to her students stating,” I have often said that God has given me the best job in the world! Working with young people like these who competed at State Literary is pure joy. They have proven their ability to face challenges, overcome obstacles, and excel. Words cannot begin to express the admiration and love I have for them all! I congratulate them as they seek to honor God in the use of their talents. To God be the glory!”
