PCA JV Football vs Savannah Country Day School
The JV Patriot Football Team put up a valiant fight but lost to the Savannah Country Day Hornets with a score of 32-8 on October 30, 2015 for their final game of the season. The first quarter started out strong for Savannah Country Day School (SCDS), with a goal early in the game. Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) fought hard, with John Marshall Headrick achieving the first down for PCA; Lake Dasher caught a stunning 12 yard pass but was injured and pulled from the game, leaving PCA down but not out.
PCA started the second quarter with a turnover on the downs; the Hornets snatched a first down and afterwards ran for an 85 yard touchdown and a successful kick for a score of 16-0. Now with 4th and four yards to go for the Patriots, John Marshall carried for second down with eight yards to go; Wade Durrence completed an excellent run and ended on the 48 yard line for a first down. The ball was handed to John Marshall who ran and gained the Patriots second down and seven yards to go; he was followed by Ronny Griffin who carried the ball for a Patriot third down and four yards to go. John Marshall fumbled; the Hornets recovered the ball on the 41 yard line but received a flag on the play. Their touchdown was later called back in a penalty of 50 yards with two minutes left of the second quarter. A pass was completed by the Hornets for a touchdown; the kick after was successful for a score of 24-0.The Patriots made a complete pass to John Marshall, and then to Hunter Smith, ending on the 45 yard line heading into the third quarter.
The third quarter started off with the Patriots holding the ball; John Marshall made a gain of three yards, but then had a loss of one yard for third down and seven yards to go. The Patriots called a time out; afterwards, quarterback Wade Durrence was tackled, and the Hornets received the ball. After a blitz of fast-paced offensive movements, the Hornets scored a touchdown that brought the score to 32-0. With two and a half minutes left in 3rd quarter, Eli Collins made a return that ended on the 33 yard line; John Marshall carried to grab the second down with five yards to go; then with a solid run John Marshall carried for a first down and ten yards to go; with a final push, he made it to second down with three yards to go. A false start on the Patriots was called giving them a five yard penalty.
The Patriots started the fourth quarter with the ball; John Marshall made a quick carry for second down and four yards to go that ended on the 39 yard line; with another hard push he made it to first down with ten yards to go on the 15 yard line. Ronnie Griffin ran on the inside and made it to the five yard line; he then ran the ball to the first yard line, and a completed pass scored a Patriot touchdown with a completed kick by Cody Biggans that made the score 32-8. The Patriot defense then held off the Hornets for the game to end at 32-8.
