PCA Cheer Teams enjoy Back to School Luau and Big/Little Reveal
By: Claire Mullis, PCA freshman
Saturday, August 10, varsity and JV cheer squads gathered together at head Coach Lindsey Blocker’s house for a back to school luau and big/little reveal hosted by cheer coaches Miss Emma Dasher, Mrs. Missi Elrod, and Mrs. April Barr. The cheerleaders came dressed in their tropical t-shirts and leis, listened to music, socialized, ate a Hawaiian style dinner catered by some of the cheer moms who also treated them to snow cones!
The big/little reveal is when varsity cheerleaders are paired with a JV cheerleader that they will to mentor and be a “big sister” to throughout the cheer year. Each squad member made matching puzzle pieces one for their little sister and one for themselves. The JV cheerleaders are called out one by one, to be presented their puzzle piece. While the Varsity girls passed a puzzle piece around and the left holding it was who would be the big sister.
The evening concluded with the big and little sisters taking selfies and sharing in the excitement for the season to come. “”The Back to School Bash” is probably one of my most favorite events during the cheerleading season for several reasons! One being that I, as coach, get to welcome the cheerleaders into my home for no other reason except for FUN before the stress and hard work of the season begins. Second, the girls get to bond with one another through the mystery of finding out who their Big and Little Sisters are. Big and Little Sisters have been a huge asset to both squads in that each girl is provided with encouragement, guidance, advice, prayers, and support throughout one of the most strenuous, yet rewarding times in their lives!” shared Coach Blocker.
