Lady Patriot Basketball named region runner-up

PCA vs. FA

On February 16, Pinewood’s Lady Patriots competed against the Frederica Academy (FA) Lady Knights in their first region tournament game. Both teams came ready for a fight to move on to the next round. In the first quarter, the teams were deadlocked with 7 points each. In the second quarter, the Lady Patriots found a solid footing and pushed ahead 19 – 15, at the half. Returning for the third, PCA maintained their lead by one point. In the final quarter, the Lady Patriots outplayed the Lady Knights and won the game 37 – 33. The Lady Patriots would now move on to play in the region championship against the Bulloch Academy Gators.

Smith led her team with 16 points followed by Moncrief with 9, Blocker 6, Nutting 5, and Griffin with 1.

PCA vs. BA

On February 16, the Lady Patriots competed in the region championship against the Bulloch Academy (BA) Lady Gators for the title of Region Champion. The Lady Patriots had a slow first quarter falling behind BA 14 – 4. In the second, the Lady Patriots managed to outscore the Lady Gators. The score at the half was 23 -14, BA. In the third quarter, the Lady Gators found their groove and dropped 30 points to Pinewood’s 4. In the final quarter, the Lady Patriots added 8 to their score and only allowed 3 to BA. The final score was 56 – 26, BA. Congratulations to the Lady Patriots on a wonderful season and being named GIAA region 2-AAA Runner-up.

Moncrief led her team with 9 points followed by Cowart with 9, Smith 4, and Griffin, Nutting and Danner each with 1.
