Mrs. Pollak’s 11th grade APES(AP Environmental Science) class has been studying nuclear energy and recently took a field trip to Plant Hatch, the nuclear plant in Baxley, Georgia. The students arrived at the visitor’s center where their tour guide presented a slide show about Plant Hatch and explained its operations. After the slideshow, the students toured the actual facility. The tour guide took them into the main building where they were able visit to the lab and mock control room. The students seemed to enjoy the mock control room the most because it simulated an actual meltdown. Visiting Plant Hatch was a great learning experience for Mrs. Pollak’s class, and they were happy to have had the opportunity to go.
