The 2015 Wendy’s High School Heisman Program Recognizes Two of Pinewood Christian Academy High School’s High-Achieving Seniors

Bellville, GA (October 27, 2015) – Noah Johns and Emily Shiver of Pinewood Christian Academy were recently named School Winners for the nationally-recognized Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. Johns and Shiver were selected based on their outstanding academic and athletic achievements, and leadership within their community. These students will move on to the next stage of the program for the chance to be named one of the two State Finalists, and for the continued consideration for the National Winner award.

“We are honored to have two of our students recognized as some of the country’s top student-athletes through this prestigious award,” said Harold Roach, Pinewood Christian Academy.

For 20 years, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award has recognized the achievements of exceptionally well-rounded students. Like the collegiate Heisman Memorial Trophy, known as the highest award in college football, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program honors the all-star performances of high school seniors in the classroom, on the field and in the community.

Johns and Shiver were selected as 2015 School Winners based on accomplishments during their 9th-11th grade years.

Noah Johns has maintained a high level of excellence in academics, athletics, and community service. He has earned a 3.89 cumulative grade point average while enrolled in the most advanced courses offered at Pinewood, and has accomplished a score of 1770 on the SAT. These high standards have earned him membership in the National Honor Society during all years of high school. This academic excellence has been maintained while Noah has participated in Varsity Football, Track and Field, as well as Cross Country events and competitions, and his leadership abilities have been apparent as co-captain of the Cross Country Team. Johns has also been conscious of using his time wisely so that he has been able to volunteer in community service projects for a total of 78 hours during the last 3 years. Noah Johns is the son of Gentry and Paula Johns of Nevils, GA.

Emily Shiver too has set goals of high achievement for her academic, athletic, and community involvement. She has earned a 3.90 cumulative grade point average while enrolled in all honors and advanced courses offered at Pinewood. During her junior year of high school, Shiver earned a score of 1690 on the SAT and 26 on the ACT. This academic excellence has been maintained while Emily has participated and received honors for her performance in Softball, Basketball, Tennis, and Track and Field. She is a member of FCA, the Interact Club, and the National Honor Society. During these last three years, she has also allowed her focus to include areas of community service through which she has given a total of 86.5 hours of volunteer service. Emily Shiver is the daughter of Crawford and Janice Shiver of Ellabell, GA.

Both Shiver and Johns were recognized by their teachers who recommended them for the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference held at Berry College during the summer of 2014. Their attendance, along with many other outstanding students from across Georgia, afforded them instruction and encouragement to be leaders among their peers and within their communities.

The next announcement in November will include the names of the State Finalists selected from every state and the District of Columbia. Following the State Finalists’ announcement, the names of the two State Winners, one male and one female, will be revealed before the group is narrowed down to 12 National Finalists. The 12 National Finalists, six males and six females, and their families will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York City to attend the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award Ceremony and the announcement of the two National Winners.
