1st Grade Celebrates Annual Native American Day
By Leah Deal, PCA Senior
On Friday, November 9th, Mrs. Haddon and Mrs. Bell’s first grade classes celebrated their annual Native American Day. Each year, the students learn about the Native Americans who inhabited America long before the Pilgrims arrived, the Pilgrims themselves, and their long journey from Europe to this foreign land on the Mayflower. These lessons also included how Thanksgiving began through friendship between the Native Americans and Pilgrims that evolved as they gathered their fall harvest in preparation for the harsh winter to come.
The students enjoyed learning about their history and origins of Thanksgiving. They also enjoyed getting the opportunity to dress up as Native Americans themselves, giving them a closer connection to this historical event.
