Taylor Watson crowned 2019 Miss PCA
By: Brayden Gravley, PCA sophomore
Pinewood Christian Academy hosted its 47th annual Miss PCA pageant on Saturday, March 23. Fourteen beautiful contestants in grades 9th through 12th came together to compete for the title.
The theme of this year’s pageant was “Dream Big, Live Your Story.” The impact that God has on your story was the inspiration for this theme. The background was decorated with vintage books, fuchsia drapes, and a scroll displaying the life verses of the contestants was unrolled down the center. More drapes adorned the edges of the stage and the floor was made beautiful with potted plants and flowers.
Not only did these young ladies become closer to each other during their weeks of hard work, but they were also brought closer to the Lord through a hopeful and inspiring Bible study. This study, entitled Dream Big by Jennie Allen, helps teen girls to cut their ties with whatever may be holding them back and run towards what God has planned for their lives. Connecting Scriptures from the New and Old Testament with everyday life, these girls learned that dreaming big starts today. They also learned ways to use their unique gifts in order to bring glory to the Kingdom of God and show His love in their everyday lives. When girls have a strong foundation in Christ, they will grow in confidence, create community, and accomplish amazing things.
Miss PCA 2003, Mrs. Brooke Stewart Smith, returned to the pageant stage to emcee. She did an amazing job presenting the contestants and entertaining the crowd.
The evening concluded with the crowning of the 2019 Miss Pinewood Christian Academy, Taylor Watson, daughter of Joel and Brandi Watson of Metter. Watson also received the Interview Award and was voted Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants. “I am so honored and blessed to have been crowned Miss PCA 2019. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family, friends, and my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Thank you to Mrs. Henrietta Rogers, Mrs. Cyndi Rogers, Mrs. Brooke Smith, and Mrs. Jennifer Bradley for helping the other contestants and I to prepare for this night. This pageant wouldn’t be what it is today without them. I am so excited to see what opportunities this year holds and to represent a place that will always hold a special place in my heart,” shared Watson, Miss PCA.
The court included 1st runner-up, Grace Gordon, daughter of Steve and Lori Gordon of Claxton and Kim Gordon of Glennville; 2nd runner-up, Ashton Shuman, daughter of Steven and Lacy Shuman of Claxton; 3rd runner-up, Cassie McCoy, daughter of Keith and Beth McCoy of Pembroke; and 4th runner-up Tinsley McCall, daughter of Van McCall of Reidsville and Sarah Beverley of Collins.
Meghan Boatright, daughter of David and Alison Boatright of Bellville, was named Miss Photogenic.
Erin Horton, daughter of Aaron and Tamara Horton of Reidsville, was voted People’s Choice.
Entertainment for the night was presented by Miss Ansley Dykes, 2018 Miss PCA, as she performed an interpretive signing of “Different” by Michael Taylor. Dykes performed a dance number with the senior escorts to the song “Do Life Big” by Jamie Grace. Senior escorts included: Noah Coley, son of Lane and Julie Coley of Claxton; Kane Kennedy, son of Don and Merrie Kennedy of Jesup; Garlon Rogers, son of Steve and Lisa Rogers of Statesboro; Chap Shuman, son of Mark and Victoria Shuman of Reidsville; and Luke Shuman, son of John and Lana Shuman of Reidsville.
The pageant contestants and PCA as a whole would like to thank Mrs. Jennifer Bradley, Mrs. Brooke Smith, Mrs. Cyndi Rogers, and Mrs. Henrietta Rogers for their hard work during the months leading up to the show. They did an amazing job encouraging these young women and helping them grow as people. Pinewood would also love to give a special thank you to those who helped with stage props and decorations.
Congratulations to Miss PCA 2019 Taylor Watson!
