Red Ribbon Week

By: Katie Bell, senior

October 23-31, 2016, was Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week’s mission is to lead and support the nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth. Pinewood Christian Academy had five seniors attend the Red Ribbon event in Evans County on October 24, 2016. Robin Salter and Emily Threlkeld, members of student council, and Aubrey Ray Sheffield, Madeline Thompson, and Nicholas Hart, interact officers, were the seniors in attendance. A GBI representative from Metter spoke at the event, and refreshments were provided. The mayor of Claxton, police officers, firemen, and homeschool groups were there to support the cause. Red Ribbon Week’s undertaking discusses drugs and its effects relating it to “a hot coal on fire.” Nicholas Hart shared that the motto this year is “#yolo, You Only Live Once, so be drug free.” Red Ribbon Week is an important event for the community to encourage parents to discuss being drug free with their children, and it inspires youth to be drug free.
