Pinewood Wrestling
Pinewood Christian Academy added a wrestling team to their athletic department last season. Coached by Kevin Hill, the wrestling team is entering their second season and has many exciting things ahead. Last year, they took 10th place in state, with 3 of the wrestlers placing overall and in their weight classes. Five of last year’s 14 wrestlers are returning this season with 6 new teammates.
The team is working very hard to train this season. They practice for about an hour and 45 minutes every day and lose two to five pounds every practice in fluid weight. Coach Kevin Hill says that wrestling is one of the toughest sports when it comes to conditioning. They work very hard and plan to keep getting better and better with every season.
The team participated in the Trinity Christian Invitational on Saturday, January 9. Each wrestler won at least one of their matches. Most every team in the GISA competed in this tournament. Mathew Floyd placed second in his weight class; Joseph McGregor placed fourth in his weight class; Christian Strickland and Tal Godwin placed fifth in their weight classes. Overall PCA’s wrestling team did very well at the tournament.
The team is wrestling on Jan. 21 at Windsor Academy, Jan. 30 at Bulloch Academy. Their region tournament is Jan. 28 and 29, and their state tournament will be February 5-6 at the Storm Dome at Georgia South Western University.
