Pinewood celebrates Homecoming 2017

Last week at Pinewood Christian Academy, students and faculty had the time of their lives as they participated in PCA’s Homecoming week. The week was filled with themed dress up days, a senior breakfast, pep rally, tailgate supper, and the 2017 Homecoming game which included the crowning of the 2017 Homecoming Queen.
Monday, September 25th, Pinewood Christian Academy started off the week with American day. Students and teachers showed their Patriotism by wearing red, white, and blue. PCA was decked out with all things America including stars, stripes, and presidents.

Tuesday, PCA students and faculty dressed “out of this world” with galaxy colored attire. Everyone showed off their sparkly costumes, face paint/glitter, and multi-colored outfits.
On Wednesday, students and faculty were given the chance to travel back in time to a different decade. From prehistoric dinosaurs all the way to the 90’s windsuits, students were creative in their choice of outfits. The halls were filled with flower crowns, poodle skirts, neon leg warmers, and much more.
Thursday was camo day. Students and faculty dressed with and every camo item they could find. Seniors arrived to school at around 6:30 A.M. to enjoy a parking lot cookout. The senior boys fired up the grills to serve breakfast for all the seniors to enjoy.
Friday was PCA’s Spirit day. The morning began as the seniors gathered at the varsity baseball field at 7am to decorate their cars and load up for the beloved tradition of the senior spirit parade. The parade started from the lot across from the Varsity baseball field, and seniors drove throughout the parking lot while the underclassmen and faculty watched and took pictures. The halls were filled with students showing their Patriot pride with everything green, orange, and white. Students supported their school with face paint, colored beads, football jerseys, Pinewood t-shirts, and more.
“Cheerleader Hush Day” began after homeroom. Cheerleaders were not allowed to talk to anyone except for other cheerleaders or their teachers. Students who caught them talking were awarded the cheerleader’s name tag. The varsity cheerleaders sold various spirit items such as toy footballs, foam fingers, colorful necklaces, and pom poms throughout the day. They also painted the lower school students’ faces and gave them temporary tattoos of their choice. This has always been a fun way for the kids to show their school spirit.
At the end of the school day, the cheerleaders hosted a pep rally for the entire school. During the pep rally, the cheerleaders pumped everyone up to prepare them for Friday night’s game against FA. The football players ran through a sign made by the cheerleaders into the gym and high-fived the lower school kids to excite them, and they loved it. After the football players were welcomed into the gym, the cheerleaders performed the fight song.
The cheerleaders then chose students to participate in a hungry hippo game. During this game, students were wheeled on scooters while holding a basket that they used to capture balloons from the center of the floor. The winning team then competed in a dance off against the teachers. They danced to songs such as Cotton Eyed Joe and the Whop.
To help conclude the pep rally, it was time for the hush badge recipients to pie their cheerleaders in the face. Mrs. Paula Bush pumped everyone up one last time for the game and closed the pep rally in singing the Alma Mater.
Later in the afternoon from 5:30 to 7, the third annual Homecoming tailgate supper became the scene for PCA patrons, alumni, and students to enjoy some bar-b-que. The supper was catered by the Rusty Pig restaurant who served numerous guests. Donations were given toward the annual fund by those attending the event.
Just before kickoff, fans gathered at Lowell Coley Field to watch this year’s homecoming representatives as they paraded through in convertibles across the home side of the field. The 2016 Homecoming Queen, Aubrey Ray Sheffield, was in attendance to crown the new queen and princess during the half-time show.
Vying for the crown were seniors Hanna Anderson, Carleigh Bell, Raegan Waters, and Milligan Williams. The other grade level representatives included: Tori Blocker (11th), Elizabeth McCooey (11th), Hannah Stone (11th), Laine Bradley (10th), Clair Lewis (10th), Payton Rogers (9th), Julie Collins (8th), and Julia Hethcox (7th).
During the half-time show, each representative was escorted onto the field. The flower girl and crown bearer, first graders Ada Grace Hendrix and Hunter Folsom, followed behind to present the crown for crowning.
This year’s Pinewood Christian Academy Princess was awarded to Carleigh Bell, the daughter of Ken and Robin Bell of Glennville, GA.
Milligan Williams was then crowned Pinewood Christian Academy’s 2017 Homecoming Queen. She is the daughter of Phillip and Bronwyn Williams of Claxton, GA.
Homecoming Week concluded with a homecoming dance hosted by the senior class. There was music, dancing, and refreshments for all to enjoy. Overall, Pinewood had a memorable, patriot pride filled week.
