By: Hannah Rice, PCA sophomore
PCA’s wrestling team traveled to Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, GA, to compete in the state wrestling meet. The team finished 5th overall out of 17 teams and had improved after finishing 10th at state last season.
Several awards were given across weight classes. Senior Matthew Coe, who has been wrestling for only two years, finished 6th overall in the 132 weight class. Freshman Ridge Vause finished 6th in the 152 weight class. Newcomer Tim Stoner, PCA junior, placed 3rd in the 160 weight class. Sophomore Bryson Heath, who had a surprising state tournament, placed 4th in the 195 weight class. Freshman Korbett MacGregor came in 3rd in the 220 weight class.
Senior Joseph MacGregor has been a member of the Pinewood Wrestling team since it began four years ago. He made Pinewood history earning the first 1st place state title for PCA. J. MacGregor wrestled in the 285 weight class. Garrett Blaxton states, “Through hard work and determination, Joseph had a great year.”
PCA’s wrestling team continues to build its success with “One Brick” as its motto. J. MacGregor explains, “The original members of the team laid the foundation for future team members to continue to build up the program one brick at a time.”
Overall, PCA’s wrestling team had a great season and made their school proud.
