PCA Students Attend Senior BETA Convention

By: Britton Waters, PCA Senior

On January 23rd through the 25th, members of the Pinewood Christian Academy senior BETA Club attended the State BETA Convention held in Savannah, Georgia, at the International Trade and Convention Center.  This event is hosted for students in BETA clubs from across the state, where they come together and compete in a variety of categories ranging from academics to visual arts to robotics.  Students were also given the opportunity to run for the offices of president, vice president, or secretary.  The convention kicked off Wednesday night, and competitions continued throughout the day Thursday.  Events were wrapped up late on Thursday night by the students celebrating with a dance party.

The final session concluded on Friday morning with the announcing of winners for each category along with the swearing in of new officers.   Anna Scott, PCA senior, received 1st place in speech.  In academics, PCA senior, Irene Lee, placed 1st in math, along with PCA freshman, Grace Ann Nevil, who received 1st place in agri-science, and Jena Bradley, PCA freshman, who placed 5th in Spanish.  Elizabeth McCooey, Joshua Murray, Garlon Rogers, Paden Skinner, Hannah Rice, and Aaron Lyons received 5th place for their campaign skit.

Any student who received 1st through 5th place will advance to Nationals in Oklahoma City this June.
