PCA Patriots Devour the Lions in First Round of State Playoffs

On October 28, 2016, the Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) Patriots battled against the Trinity Christian Lions for the first round of state playoffs. PCA was victorious with a score of 54-7.
Pinewood’s overall ranking is 6-4 with a region rank is 3-1.
First Quarter
The Patriots kicked the ball to Trinity’s 23rd yard line for the kickoff. Connor Kennedy and Quincy Tanner tackled the runner for a loss of one yard for Trinity. Sky Rogers and Tanner kept the Lions from gaining any yards. Trinity was forced to punt.
Ford Thompson received the kick return and ran for a small gain of yardage.
Garlon Rogers carried the ball earning a first and goal for the Patriots. G. Rogers scored the first touchdown (TD) of the game. The kick was not good, and the score became 6-0.
Pinewood kicked the ball for the kick return. Trinity had a quick turnover on downs.
On the next series, Pinewood received the kickoff and ran the ball for a gain of four yards. PCA had a 2nd down and 6 yards to go for the first down. The Patriots fumbled the ball, and the Lions recovered it.
On the following series, Collin Woolard intercepted the ball from Trinity. Kaleb Shuman ran the ball for a gain of 8 yards. G. Rogers carried the ball and earned a Patriot first down. Jeffrey Young completed a pass to Parks Hagan for a second down. K. Shuman carried the ball for a steady yardage gain for PCA.
Rogers ran the ball earning first and goal for Pinewood. G. Rogers scored the second TD of the game, and the two-point conversion ran by K. Shuman was complete which put the score at 14-0.
Pinewood kicked the ball to Trinity. Young and Cameron Dutton led the Patriots with strong tackles each. Matthew Floyd intercepted the ball from the Lions.
On the next series, K. Shuman ran the ball for PCA, inching closer to the end zone. G. Rogers ran into the end zone for Pinewood’s third TD. The kick after by Caleb Conley was good, and the scoreboard read 21-0.
PCA kicked the ball for the kickoff, and C. Woolard sacked the runner on the 16 yard line. K. Shuman intercepted the ball earning first and 10 yards.
Pinewood’s K. Shuman ran the ball into the end zone for another Patriot TD. Conley kicked the ball successfully through the uprights which made the score 28-0.
Pinewood kicked the ball to the Lions. The Patriots were called for a personal foul. The Trinity Lions fumbled the ball, and PCA’s S. Rogers recovered it.
Young looked for the pass, but no one was open forcing him to run the ball. Two Lions tackled Young putting PCA at a second down with nine yards to go.
Second Quarter
Young ran the ball again, but a flag for holding against Pinewood called them back 10 yards. The pass by Young was incomplete to C. Woolard. Young completed a pass to Thompson just shy of a first down.
Rogers earned the first down for Pinewood. Dutton caught the pass from Young. An illegal block against PCA backed up the boys in green and orange 15 yards.
Shuman carried the ball which put Pinewood at a second down and eight yards to go. Young went for a pass but was hard pressed by the Lions, forcing him to throw the ball out of bounds.
Shuman ran the ball into the end zone scoring the fifth TD of the game. Conley kicked the ball through the uprights making the score 35-0.
On the kick return, K. Shuman had a strong tackle against the Lions. S. Rogers tackled the runner from Trinity on the next play. Trinity had a 5 yard penalty for a false start.
Floyd had a spectacular tackle against the runner which was a loss of yards for the Lions. Trinity had an incomplete pass, and they were forced to punt.
On the punt return, the Lions were called for a penalty which gave PCA their first down. Hagan carried the ball for a steady yardage gain. Young threw an incomplete pass to Jake Woolard.
PCA was forced for a field goal attempt. Conley missed by a few inches. Turnover on downs.
Shuman intercepted the ball from Trinity, putting PCA back on offense. K. Shuman scored another TD for the Patriots. The points after were not good, and the score became 41-0.
On the next series, K. Shuman intercepted the ball again from the Lions, and PCA switched back to their offensive line. G. Rogers carried the ball for Pinewood for a small yard gain.
Lake Dasher, a freshman, ran the ball for the Patriots and earned the first down. Dasher carried the ball across the goal line for a Patriot TD, which was his first touchdown of the season. The kick by Conley was good, and the scoreboard read 48-0.
On the next series, Logan Lewis had a hard sack against the Trinity Lions. The timer ran out with Pinewood in the lead, and Trinity without a touchdown.
Third Quarter
Dasher carried the ball for 7 yards putting Pinewood at first and 3 yards to go. The ball was handed off to Dasher, but he was tackled before gaining any more yards.
Woolard ran the ball and earned a Patriot first down. Dasher ran the ball for a gain of a few yards. The Lions tackled J. Woolard as he gained a few yards on the carry. Young threw a close pass to C. Woolard, but it was incomplete, forcing PCA to punt the ball.
Teague Blake, Jacob Hendrix, and John Marshall Headrick all had outstanding tackles against the Trinity Lions. Headrick tackled the runner for the third down. An incomplete pass was thrown to the Lions. Turnover on downs.
Dasher ran the ball for Pinewood gaining the second down and four yards to go. Wade Durrence carried the ball for PCA but was tackled by the Lions.
Dasher earned the Patriot first down on the carry. The ball was handed off to Dasher, and he ran for a gain of a few yards. An incomplete pass was thrown for the fourth down.
Pinewood was forced to punt, and C. Woolard kicked the ball with the last seconds running off the clock. Trinity received the ball, and the buzzer went off.
Fourth Quarter
A flag was called on the Patriots for a personal foul. Trinity ran for their first TD of the game. The points after were good, and the score became 48-7.
Dasher received the kickoff and ran for a gain of 60 yards. W. Durrence ran the ball for the Patriots gaining a couple yards. Lewis ran the ball to the 3 yard line. W. Durrence carried the ball, putting Pinewood at 3rd and goal.
Dasher crossed the goal line for a Patriot TD. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful making the score 54-7.
Dasher tackled the Lion receiver from the kickoff. A pass was incomplete for the Lions.
Tal Godwin tackled the runner from Trinity. James Rogers made a strong tackle against the runner. Blake and Godwin tackled the opposing runner. Headrick, Timothy Johnson, and Eli Collins tackled the runner by the line of scrimmage. An incomplete pass was thrown by Trinity.
On the last play of the game, Trinity threw an incomplete pass.
Pinewood was victorious. The Patriots and will continue to the next round of the state playoffs where they will go head-to-head with John Milledge Academy in Milledgeville.
