PCA Holds Annual Beta Club Induction
By Sydney Strickland, PCA junior
On October 17th, Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) held its fourth annual National Beta Club Induction during their morning chapel services. Thirty-five high school students were inducted into Senior Beta along with 40 middle school students into Junior Beta.
Ever since its beginning in 2015, PCA’s National Beta Club chapter has grown tremendously, with only 54 members at its start to now almost 200 members in Junior and Senior Beta only in this school year.
To be eligible for PCA Junior Beta, middle school students must maintain a 93 overall academic average, exemplify worthy character, and uphold a commendable attitude. When asked what they hoped for these new inductees and the rest of Junior Beta, sponsors Mrs. Missi Elrod and Mrs. Allison Dekle replied,” We hope that they will continue to excel academically and that we will have another successful year at state convention. We hope to expand our service project opportunities and help our community.”
To be a part of PCA Senior Beta, high school students must maintain an 85 academic average for the entire school year. Since Beta is a service organization, members must also complete a number of service driven projects. Senior Beta sponsor Mrs. Susan Nobles expresses her aspirations for Beta club, “I hope that students in this club learn to live by Beta’s motto, ‘Let us lead by serving.’ It is an important attribute to society when a teenager understands how to lead as well as a servant to others.”
Senior Beta Co-President Elizabeth McCooey explained what Beta Club means to her stating, “It really is such an honor to serve as Pinewood’s Beta co-president. Leadership and service to my community are two things that I am very passionate about, so being able to guide others in my school and leading this lifestyle is absolutely priceless.”
