PCA Graduate Lives a Dream
Through the last four decades Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) has graduated students who have gone on to achieve tremendous accomplishments. One recent graduate who is living such a dream is Taylor Lewis. Taylor plans on returning to Orlando for spring training with the Braves and finding out which league he will be with for the start of the season. He hopes to be assigned back to the Rome Braves. If everything goes as planned, in ten years Lewis wants to still be playing in the Major League.
The biggest obstacle Taylor has faced in his journey was playing at a junior college and then moving to the SEC. Playing in the College World Series and pitching against Virginia has been his greatest memory in baseball. The thing Lewis is most excited for in joining the Braves is being able to play for the team he grew up watching and getting to play close to home near his family and friends.
Taylor has dreamed his entire life about making it this far, but he never thought it would become a reality. While Lewis was at Pinewood the person, who influenced him the most was Coach Randy Roderick. Roderick helped him realize that his natural talent would take him only so far, there would always be someone better than he, he needed to develop a great work ethic, and he must always remember the importance of being disciplined. As he has moved through college and now to the major and minor leagues, he has realized everything his coach told him was true. Taylor says he will forever be indebted to Coach Roderick for his guidance.
Recently, PCA retired Taylor’s high school jersey. He is the first athlete to be honored in such a way in Pinewood’s history. Pinewood is very proud of Taylor and all of his accomplishments and wishes him the best as he continues his journey into the major leagues.
