PCA Environmental Science Students Visit Plant Hatch
On Thursday, February 2, Pinewood Christian Academy’s (PCA) AP Environmental Science Class traveled to Baxley to visit Plant Hatch, the nuclear power plant. While on site, the students learned the variety of positions and job descriptions of those working at the Plant, visited a simulation of the control room, and saw the various classrooms for the workers; they were also given a tour of the Plant’s grounds. During the simulation, the students received a demonstration of what happened at various nuclear power plant failures, as well as an explanation of the vast number of controls used to keep the reactor in check. The students enjoyed a hands-on experience while getting firsthand knowledge about nuclear power from veteran workers, giving them a deeper understanding of many of the things that go on inside a nuclear reactor.
