On February 13, 26 Evans County 4-H members competed against 39 other counties in the 2018 Southeast District Junior/Senior Achievement Competition. Five 4-H’ers from Pinewood including Junior 4-Her’s Elizabeth Grace O’Brien and Callie Trani and Senior 4-Her’s Patcharamai “Mook” Jarutassanee, Jacob Myers, and Payton Haddon earned awards in their chosen project areas. Payton Haddon was rewarded with first place in the Human Development Project, and Jacob Myers won first place in the Computer Information Technology Project. They both will advance to the Georgia 4-H State Competition, which will be held in Atlanta on July 24-27th. Elizabeth O’Brien won 1st place in the Performing Arts Dance Project, and Callie Trani won 3rd place in Plant and Soil Science Project. Mook was rewarded 5th place in the International Project. In addition to the competition, students had the opportunity to take their leadership skills outside of the 4-H classroom by campaigning against other junior or senior 4-H’ers to earn a seat in one of the eight seats on the 2018-2019 Southeast District 4-H Junior or Senior Board of Directors. Jacob Myers campaigned against more than twenty candidates and was elected to serve as a member of this board. Over the next year, he will attend many leadership retreats and trainings, and he will serve 9th-12th grade 4-H’ers from across the 39 other counties by helping to plan and preside at local, district, and state 4-H events.
