Pinewood Plays in Lady Gator Classic
Pinewood’s Varsity Girls split a pair of games to start the season. November 15th – 17th, Bulloch Academy held the Lady Gator Classic basketball tournament. On the first night, the Lady Patriots played Westminister Schools of Augusta and lost 52-37. The Patriots returned to the tournament pumped up ready to take on Hilton Head Prep earning them a win of 42-37.
Pinewood Varsity Girls vs. West Minister
1st Quarter
The Varsity Girls began the game with Shelton Rogers (#1), Macy Pirkle (#4), Abi Oates (#10), Carleigh Bell (#15), and Reagan Waters (#33) taking the court. During the first quarter, the Lady Patriots scored 7 points led by Oates with 4, Bell making 2, and Rogers with 1.
2nd Quarter
The Lady Patriots entered the second quarter strong scoring 13 more points in the second quarter. Bell led the way scoring 5 points including two free throws, Waters with 4, and both Pirkle and Meghan Boatright with 2 points each.
1st half score was 20-18, Patriots.
3rd Quarter
As the third quarter began, Westminister came out strong. The Lady Pats played hard to maintain their lead; however, Westminister defense only allowed a 6-point gain for the Patriots. Rogers and Waters scored 2 points with Jernigan and Bell earning one point each with free throws.
4th Quarter
During the fourth quarter, the Lady Patriots strived for a comeback shooting for an 11 point gain with Bell and Morgan Todd scoring 3 points, Waters 2, and Rogers, Abigail Bland, and Haley Thompson gaining 1 each in free throws.
Time ran out with the Lady Patriots coming up short to Westminister 52-37. The Lady Patriots might have tasted defeat during this game, but they were ready to play harder on the 17th against Hilton Head Prep.
Pinewood Varsity Girls vs. Hilton Head Prep Game
1st Quarter
The Lady Patriots began their second game of the tournament with Rogers (#1), Pirkle (#5), Oates (#10), Bell (#15), and Waters (#33) taking to the court and earning 7 points. Oates, Bell, and Jernigan led with 2 points each with Boatright scoring 1.
2nd Quarter
During the second quarter, Pirkle led scoring 6 points, Rogers scored 3, and Oates and Bell both score 2.
At the end of the 1st half, Pinewood was down 20-23.
3rd Quarter
The Lady Patriots came into the second half of the game on their way to make a comeback from the 1st half. Bell scored 4 points with Oates and Pirkle gaining 2 each for a total 8-point gain for the Patriots during the third quarter.
4th Quarter
By the 4th quarter, Bell and Pirkle were leading the way and Pinewood dominated the court scoring 14 points with Bell tallying 9 and Pirkle 5.
The Lady Patriots seized the win with a score of 42-37.
