Community Helpers Visit PCA’S K-5 Students

By: Hannah Rice, PCA sophomore

Pinewood’s K-5 students have recently finished their lessons about the helpers in our community.  Mrs. Richey and Mrs. Sheffield have been hosting a variety of student’s parents to come in and talk about their jobs. This gave the students several opportunities to learn about the different types of jobs in the community.

Mr. Daniel McEachin

Mr. Daniel McEachin, father of Austin McEachin, spoke to the kids about Plant Hatch on September 1.  Plant Hatch is a nuclear power plant located in Baxley, Ga. “It provides clean, safe, reliable, affordable energy, and many opportunities for employment in the local community,” quoted D. McEachin.

Mrs. Lindsay Hodges

On September 8, Mrs. Lindsay Hodges visited and talked to the children about the duties of being a teacher and what it takes to be a good student. She told the kids that some of the attributes needed to be a good student are turning in your homework, learning math, reading and writing skills, studying every night, and listening!  Hodges teaches math to 9th -12th graders at Tattnall County High School. She was inspired to be a teacher after watching her own mom teach.

Mrs. Amanda Bell

Dental Hygienist, Mrs. Amanda Bell, visited the children on September 18 to discuss the importance of dental hygiene.  She talked about the purpose of floss, fluoride, and how people should stay away from too many sweet treats. Bell works for Dr. McGibony and Associates out of Statesboro.

The students thoroughly enjoyed all of the guests, and they missed police chief, Mr. Dale Kirkland. Kirkland was not able to make it on September 6, because he took emergency supplies to Texas in order to help with the Hurricane Harvey relief effort.
