John Milledge Defeats PCA in Second Round of the State Playoffs 42-14

On November 4, 2016, the Pinewood Christian Academy (PCA) Patriots lost to a tough duel against the John Milledge Academy (JMA) Trojans for the second round of state playoffs. PCA met their match and lost with a score of 42-7.
First Quarter
John Milledge won the coin toss and chose to receive the ball. Pinewood kicked the ball to the Trojans’ 20 yard line. Matthew Floyd had a strong sack against the Trojan runner. Connor Kennedy held the defensive line and tackled the Trojans. Cameron Dutton tackled the runner putting John Milledge at a third down with nine yards to go. Floyd sacked the quarterback which forced the Trojans to punt.
On the next series, Kaleb Shuman carried the ball up the middle for a gain of 11 yards. Garlon Rogers ran the ball for a third down and 1 yard to go for the first down. K. Shuman ran the ball but was tackled behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of yards. Pinewood was forced to punt the ball.
The ball was kicked to the 44 yard line, and it was first and ten for the Trojans. John Milledge ran the ball for a gain of a few yards until being tackled by Floyd and Sky Rogers. A complete pass was thrown to JMA, but Pinewood’s Floyd and Parks Hagan tackled him. John Milledge ran the ball and was stopped by Floyd and Dutton, but JMA earned the first down. A complete pass was thrown, and Jake Woolard tackled the receiver out of bounds. J. Woolard intercepted JMA’s 30 yard pass, but a flag on the play canceled the interception which put the Trojans at a first down and ten yards to go. S. Rogers tackled the Trojan runner. James Rogers brought down the runner as he inched close to the end zone, putting JMA at first and goal. Wes Purcell, C. Kennedy, and Floyd would not let the runner through. Right at the goal line Pinewood’s defense held their ground by not allowing the Trojans through. John Milledge crossed the goal line and scored the first TD of the game. The kick after was good, and the score became 0-7.
Shuman received the kick and ran a 30 yard run for the Patriots. Jeffrey Young ran up the middle with a gain of 8 yards. Young completed a 10 yard pass to J. Woolard, who then gained 10 more yards for PCA. K. Shuman ran the ball for a gain of 5 yards upon being knocked down by the line of scrimmage. Young threw a 10 yard pass to Hagan, but it was incomplete as it was tipped by Hagan’s fingertips. Young threw a pass to Ford Thompson who tipped the ball in the air, and a JMA player tried to intercept it but tipped the ball again into the hands of Dutton. Dutton ran 15 yards which put PCA on the 20 yard line. G. Rogers ran the ball up the middle for a little gain for PCA.
Second Quarter
Young threw about a 15 yard pass to J. Woolard, putting Pinewood just under the 5 yard line. G. Rogers ran the ball through the middle for a Patriot TD. The kick was good by Caleb Conley, so the score became 7-7.
Conley kicked the kick off, and K. Shuman had a nice sack against the JMA receiver. S. Rogers had a spectacular sack against the Trojans, and Quincy Tanner helped bring the runner down behind the line of scrimmage. Dutton came close to breaking up the pass, but it was complete to the JMA receiver who was tackled by Collin Woolard. Dutton grabbed hold of the runner and brought him down hard to the ground for a fourth down. The Trojans were forced to punt the ball.
The ball landed on the 43 yard line, making it first and ten for Pinewood. Young ran the ball and earned about 10 yards for the Patriots. G. Rogers carried the ball for a 8 yard gain. Young threw a 12 yard pass to Hagan, but a flag called them back. Pinewood was forced to punt the ball.
On the next series, the Trojans ran the ball through the middle, and Dutton along with Purcell brought him down with a hard sack. A flag backed John Milledge up five yards for an illegal procedure. G. Rogers tackled the runner which put JMA at a third down and 15 to go. A pass was completed to the Trojans who was tackled by J. Woolard very close to out of bounds. C. Kennedy, S. Rogers, and Kort Kennedy backed the runner up with a hard tackle. G. Rogers and Thompson sacked the receiver of the pass from JMA, but the Trojans just barely earned a first down. The Trojans score a TD, and the kick after was good which made the score 7-14.
Shuman received the kick off, and earned 15 yards for the Patriots. A flag called the Patriots back 15 yards. K. Shuman ran the ball for a gain of about 40 yards. Young threw a complete pass to Thompson for a gain of 4 yards for the Patriots. K. Shuman carried the ball, but was tackled behind the line of scrimmage. Young threw the pass, but it was intercepted by the Trojans.
On the next series, K. Shuman tackled the runner, but the Trojans earned a first down. Another complete pass was thrown for a first down. Dutton and Purcell sacked the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. A pass from the JMA quarterback was thrown but was incomplete. A flag was thrown against Pinewood. John Milledge scored a TD, and the point after was good, making the score 7-21.
Shuman received the kick return and ran 20 yards. On the next play, K. Shuman carried the ball for a gain of 5 yards. As the clock ran out John Milledge was ahead by two touchdowns, 7-21.
Third Quarter
From the kick off, K. Shuman catches the ball but fumbled, and JMA recovered. A flag was thrown on the play, but it was declined.
John Milledge set just under the 5 yard line for the next play. The Trojans score a TD, and the point after was good which made the score become 7-28.
JMA kicked the ball into the end zone for the kick return. The Patriots set up on their 20 yard line. G. Rogers carried the ball for a second down and 6 to go. The pass by Young to Thompson was incomplete. Pinewood was forced to punt.
Jacob Hendrix tackled the Trojan receiver, first and ten for JMA. Floyd had an outstanding tackle against the Trojans for a second down. Purcell tackled JMA’s runner, but the Trojan’s earned a first down. Dutton tackled the runner for a second down. John Milledge threw an incomplete pass. A 36 yard pass was completed which put JMA at a first down and goal. A four yard TD was made, and the kick was good. The scoreboard read 7-35.
On the kick return, JMA kicked the ball into the end zone. K. Shuman fumbled the ball from the snap on the next play, but he quickly picked it back up for a gain of 5 yards for PCA. Young looked for a pass to Thompson, but Young threw it out of bounds. Pinewood was forced to punt the ball.
On the next series, John Milledge ran the ball through the middle, and Pinewood’s Floyd held on to the runner and dragged him down. A host of Patriots including Dutton, Hendrix, Tanner, and S. Rogers, tackled the runner for a loss of yards for JMA. Purcell tackled the runner causing him to fumble, and PCA’s J. Woolard recovered the ball. A flag on the play canceled the fumble, so the Trojans got the ball back. JMA continued to run the ball, and Pinewood kept holding their defensive line. Turnover on downs.
Young completed a pass to J. Woolard for a Patriot first down. A pass interference against John Milledge caused them to back up 15 yards. K. Shuman received a pass from Young for a gain of a few yards. Young threw an incomplete to J. Woolard, but a flag against JMA caused them to back up 15 more yards. Young completed a pass to J. Woolard, which put PCA at first and ten yards to go. K. Shuman was tackled behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of four yards. K. Shuman picked up his slack and ran a hard run gaining over 15 yards. G. Rogers carried the ball for PCA, gaining several yards.
Fourth Quarter
After Young’s complete pass to J. Woolard, PCA was at the ten yard line with first and goal. The ball was intercepted near the end zone by JMA.
On the next series, Tanner tackled the runner for a second down. K. Shuman tackled the runner on the next play. Floyd ran the runner down and had a strong tackle against the runner, but JMA earned a first down at the 49 yard line.
John Milledge ran the ball for a first down, which put them on the 25 yard line. The Trojans ran a 25 yard TD, and the kick was good. The score became 7-42, Trojans in the lead.
Shuman received the ball from the kickoff. Lake Dasher ran the ball for Pinewood for a second down. Young completed a pass to Hagan for a first down. Dutton received the pass from Young, which gave PCA a first down and ten yards to go. K. Shuman ran the ball and gained 6 yards. On the carry again, K. Shuman ran the ball and gained a first down for Pinewood. Dutton carried the ball for a second down and 10 yards to go. J. Woolard scored Pinewood’s second TD of the game. The kick by Conley was good, so the score became 42-14. The clock ran out with John Milledge ahead.
