PCA 4-6th Graders Celebrate Grinch Day
By: Brayden Gravley, PCA sophomore
On Friday, December 14th, fourth through sixth graders at Pinewood Christian Academy celebrated Grinch Day, a day revolving around everyone’s favorite Christmas fiend. Students enjoyed academic activities all centered around the Grinch.
In Mrs. Missi Elrod’s English Language Arts class, students sang and studied the meaning of the meaning of the famous song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” Students identified the figurative language found in the song such as similes, metaphors, and hyperboles. They also completed a Grinch madlib using parts of speech and wrote a persuasive letter to the Grinch convincing him to smile.
In Mrs. Lauren Bluestein’s reading class, students recognized the protagonist and antagonist of the movie through various activities. They also studied the characters’ development throughout the story figuring out which characters were static and which were dynamic.
The students were also encouraged to dress up in Grinch inspired clothing. Some wore all green, others tried out crazy Who hairdos, and some were even the Grinch’s dog, Max! These middle schoolers spoiled the Grinch’s ultimate plan, using him to bring Christmas cheer instead of ruin it!
