The ALL of US against ALS 5K run and walk was held on November 11th at Pinewood Christian Academy. ALS (also called Lou Gehrig’s disease) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects an average of 25,000 people in the United States each year. This event was hosted to raise money for local families that have been affected by this disease. Money was also donated to the ALS Association, a nonprofit American association whose goal is to support the cause and fund research. A total of 180 people attended and participated in this event which raised more than $10,000. Miss Georgia Outstanding Teen, Annie Swann, whose platform is ALS, took part in the event by sharing a story of her grandfather who also fought this disease. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Johns after a few local families and the cross country senior athletes brought the idea to her attention. When asked about the event’s success, Mrs. Johns said, “It was a blessing to be a part of and to be able to see all the love and compassion in this community. We were all witnessing love in action.”
