PCA First Graders Perform “The Tale of Three Trees.”

By Sydney Strickland, PCA junior

On December 17, Pinewood Christian Academy’s (PCA) first grade students performed their annual Christmas play, “The Tale of the Three Trees.” Friends and family gathered in the cafetorium and watched the students bring this traditional Christmas story to life. The children portrayed three trees along with other roles including Mary, Joseph, lumberjacks, angels, and animals.

“The Tale of Three Trees” tells the story of three trees with different hopes for the future. The first tree wished to be a treasure chest that would hold precious jewels, and the second tree dreamed to be a magnificent sailboat that would hold mighty kings. The third tree, however, didn’t want to be cut down at all, but instead grow tall and reach its branches toward Heaven. As the years passed, lumberjacks came and cut down all three trees, but none of their dreams came true. The first tree became a lowly feedbox for farm animals, the second tree became a common fishing boat, and the third became wooden beams in a lumberyard. However, each tree would eventually become an important part of the greatest story ever told. One night, the first tree held a newborn baby boy named Jesus, the most precious treasure any box could ever hold. During a terrible storm, the second tree carried a traveler and his friends and was amazed when the traveler calmed the sea to still with one word, “Peace”. The second tree knew that the King of Heaven and Earth was sailing on her. Early one morning, the third tree was snatched out of the lumberyard and was carried by a beaten man in a very unforgiving crowd, who was nailed to the third tree and died. Three days later, the man rose from the grave, and the third tree knew that God’s love had conquered all.

This play gave the first graders a deeper understanding of Jesus’ life and how much God loves them.
